Condition & Provenance

Previously owned by the late Alan Darby - famous in his own right, but also noted for playing with some of the greatest inc. Eric Clapton & Paul McCartney. Also described as a “guitar giant” by the Queen guitarist Sir Brian May. The 1970's Fender case supplied with the guitar features Alan's name, along with airline stickers from previous tours.

Presented in Good Condition, this fine example exhibits lots of signs of use, including lacquer checking, small to medium-sized dents, scratches and other marks commensurate with its age. While Fender Vintage Reissues can't be dated via the serial number, the year has been established from both the pencil stamp on the heel of the neck and the pots.

During its time with Alan, these changes were made:

  • Pro Refret w/Medium Jumbo Wire
  • New Luthier-made Bone Nut
  • Fingerboard Refin'
  • Routed for a Humbucker in the Bridge
  • Shielding Paint Applied to the Pickup & Control Cavity
  • Dunlop Strap Lock Buttons Fitted
  • Treble Bleed Fitted
  • Replacement String Tree
  • Replacement Pickups (see below)
  • Backplate, Screws & Tremolo Arm Missing

Electronics

Now set up for HSS operation, in the Bridge you'll find a Seymour Duncan TB5. The neck & bridge positions are occupied by a pair of Kinman Avn56. The guitar is fitted with CTS pots (dating to 1986) along with a USA-made CRL 5-way Switch, an Orange Drop Capacitor along with an aftermarket Treble Bleed.

Set-up

An in-house setup has been carried out here at Cody's Guitars along with a full inspection of parts for function and originality. Thanks to the larger fretwire and a slightly flatter radius past the 12th fret, the guitar plays & intonates well across the fretboard with a low action.

About Us

About Us

Welcome to Cody’s Guitars, where passion, craftsmanship, and decades of musical experience come together. Founded in 2017, our shop is built on nearly 20 years in the musical retail industry, and a lifelong love for guitars and the people who play them.

Our Story

Cody’s Guitars began with a simple mission: to create a space where musicians of all levels feel supported, inspired, and genuinely taken care of. After spending almost two decades working hands-on in the industry, we wanted to build something that focused on quality, honesty, and real musical connection. What started as a small idea quickly grew into a trusted local hub for players seeking gear, guidance, and a friendly place to talk shop.

What We Do

We specialise in guitars, pedals, and amplifiers, offering a curated range chosen for tone, reliability, and feel. Whether you’re hunting for your first guitar, upgrading your rig, or chasing that one perfect sound, we’re here to help you find the right match.

Alongside retail, we also provide guitar lessons, tailored for beginners, seasoned players, and everyone in between. Our teaching approach is patient, practical, and focused on helping you grow at your own pace.

Our Values

  • High Standards: From the gear we sell to the services we offer, quality is non-negotiable.
  • Expertise: With nearly two decades of industry experience, we know our craft inside out.
  • Community: We’re here for musicians — to support, encourage, and share the joy of playing.
  • Integrity: Honest advice, fair prices, and genuine care for every customer who walks through the door.
  • Why We’re Different

At Cody’s Guitars, we pride ourselves on a high standard of work in everything we do. We take time with each customer, making sure you leave not just with the right gear, but with the confidence and excitement to play it. This isn’t just a shop — it’s a place where musicians can grow, connect, and feel at home.
