The JS2K, also known as the JS2K Planet or simply the Y2K, is a JS series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2000. It is a signature model of American guitarist Joe Satriani which was made in Japan by FujiGen.
The JS2K is a special limited edition model issued to commemorate the new millennium; just 200 were produced. It has a unique crystal acrylic body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with a luminous dot position markers including a special inlay at the twelfth fret and luminous side dots. Components include a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, a pair of DiMarzio humbucking pickups mounted in a illuminant clear mounting rings wound with special clear insulated wire on clear bobbins, and Gotoh tuning machines. The headstock features an illuminant plate and the cavity covers are of a similar material. To finish off the effect clear insulated wires are used throughout. Controls consist of Satriani's usual configuration including a push-pull high pass filter on the volume and a push-pull coil split on the tone pot.
A certificate of authenticity engraved on a metal plate is included along with a black hardshell case with plush purple lining along with a chromed Planet Waves strap, a flexible pick guard and the usual documents and "case candy".
Similar "Millennium Models" were produced for Steve Vai (the JEM2K) and George Benson (the GB2K); the themes for these guitars were DNA and masquerade, respectively. They were produced in similar limited numbers. Each guitar in the series features an image representing all three guitars on the rear of its headstock: a ringed planet for the JS2K, a DNA double helix for the JEM2K and a Mardi Gras style mask for the GBK2. The image associated with the particular model is placed in the center and slightly enlarged.
